Powdered Milk and Cheese Storage

Hi there,

I am new to food storage. I was able to buy 10 lbs each of powdered milk, eggs, cheese, and butter online. It was shipped in plastic bags with a zip tie around it. What is the best way to store it?

My original plan was to keep some in my pantry In quart jars with oxygen absorbers for frequent use and store the rest in Mylar bags. I’m having trouble getting the Mylar to seal. This very likely could be user error, because I am new to this. I’m am at about a 2/3 rate of the bags sealing vs not sealing. What are your storage recommendations?

Hi Julie,

I'm not sure what the issue might be with the Mylar bags not sealing, but maybe this little video will help. It's on this page: Food Storage Containers.

My storage recommendations would be exactly what you're doing. I don't know any other way to store those products other than in sealed Mylar bags or put in the freezer. Freezing is not a long term solution though.
